Here Comes Linda…

… and She’s a triplicate!

For posterity’s sake, I thought I’d upload a handful of the better tracks done by Lee (Tox) Nemier and myself, when working as THE Linda Sharpe Trio.
I’ll do more of these drops in the future. Or perhaps not.
I’m screaming into a void here.
*insert smiley-of-sorts*

I’ve worked with some seriously talented people over the years, some of them actually in the longer of terms. This collaboration ticked both boxes. Plus, there is a magic that happens when working side by side with someone on a creative project. When it clicks, nothing beats it.

Our method of operations was to record Sunday sessions that could last up to four hours. It was my job, during the week that followed, to sift through and piece together the best bits of the session into however many narrative-driven ‘tunes’ that I could.
We did this op for about a year and a half. There were a lot of tunes.

Here are some examples:

And Yet They Sing

The flow from Josephine Baker > to Zulu movie bits > to South African tribal warriors chasing Cornel Wilde > to that ending Ox Baker promo is something I am still quite proud of.

No matter the political struggles of a people, a place, or thing, we all fall to the Heart Punch.

Composed by Eric Baker & Lee Nemier

Baker: Dialogues, Sounds, Sculpting
Nemier: Synthesizers, Sequencers

Dialogues used: 'Readings by Robert', Hoolihan and Big Chuck Show - Bob Wells (1970s)
'ZouZou', Josephine Baker sings 'Haiti' (1934)
                'Zulu' (1964)
                'The Naked Prey'(1965)
Heart Punch promo, Ox Baker (1982)

Bennington Dimensions

An amazing bit of melody by Nemier. Very kind. Very sweet. Very punctual.
Hopefully he reused it.

At this point we can stopped recording together on the regular. We became more independent. He brought this in and I was just blown away.
I still am.

I tried hard to do justice to it with the dialogues added. The explosions and VCR cleaning instructions meant more than might let on.

Composed by Lee Nemier & Eric Baker

Nemier: Synthesizer, Sequencer, Rhythm, Sounds
Baker: Dialogues, Explosions, Sculpting

Missiles Are Away!

“You dirty rat. You got me started on this stuff… [The Residents].”
“The Residents got me started on this stuff.”

This was when I *knew* what I wanted to do could be done well.
Nemier created some amazing melodies, sounds, and rhythms on this. The cuts and mixing? *chef’s kiss*

I was told at the implosion of this collaboration that ‘anyone could do what [I] did’. At the time, and for a long time, that stung.
But he was right.
And I encourage anyone to do me one better. After all, I could use some other cool stuff to listen to.

There once was a woman named Linda…

… Linda Sharpe.

For just over two years I was the sound designer, dialogue looper, mix guy, and chief conceptualist in an outfit called the Linda Sharpe Trio. I worked with an excellent musician who did the majority of synth and rhythm work, which I always felt resulted in the extraordinary. It eventually fell apart.

Linda Sharpe Trio (no ‘the’) is still around doing its thing. Check it out. I’d link the reader to his output platform, but he’d probably threaten a cease & desist for my efforts.

But I’ve got the prior goods. And I want to share a couple of them. This outfit could’a been a contender.
